A group of senior UK diplomats have visited the University as part of the Foreign & Commonwealth Office’s pre-post training for new Heads of Mission (HOMS) prior to taking up their appointments overseas, in posts as Ambassadors, High Commissioners and Consul-Generals.
The visit was facilitated by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Devolution Unit and the Office of the First Minister, Welsh Government.
Visits to Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are an integral element of the training programme, designed to give HOMS the opportunity to engage, and better understand the interests of business, academia, and civil society, and for HOMS to hear how they can help support these interests.
The visit aimed to highlight Swansea University’s strengths and ambition, and to showcase its excellent research and international collaborations. The University was also keen to highlight the importance of its international partners and the value that international students bring to the University.
The visit was also an opportunity to showcase the very best of Wales, including its innovation and creative industries, education and skills, and to highlight Wales as a superb place to visit.
As well as high-level engagement, the visit provided plenty of opportunity for real face time with citizens in Wales including new entrepreneurs, young people and those living across the community.
