The 360 Beach and Watersports Centre is this year celebrating its 5th birthday with a host of fun activities on the weekend of Sat 30 September and Sun 1 October.
Everyone is invited to join 360 in celebrating its birthday with the special offer of £5 activities and food during the fun weekend including:
- All watersports £5 per person
- Court hire £5 per hour
- Kid’s Beach Sports (ages 5-7) – FREE
- Kid’s Beach Sports (ages 8+) – FREE
All main meals in the Cafe Bar (burgers, sandwiches, salads, jacket potatoes) will be at the special rate of £5 each.
360’s vision is to improve accessibility and inclusivity through sport and the birthday celebration weekend will showcase all of the activities and amenities on offer and enable everyone to have a go at the wide variety of sport experiences on offer.
The busy café, sports centre and meeting place has now become a permanent fixture on the Swansea Bay waterfront.
The centre offers sessions for children and adults in a variety of sports and activities and as well as hosting a variety of coaching sessions it also offers showers and lockers for independent users of the beach and water.
The fully-licensed café provides a wide a range of food and beverages and is very dog-friendly - the dogs even have their own sheltered area to sit and relax.
General Manager Kate Hannington, who has been with 360 since its opening says:
“360 is operated in equal partnership between Swansea University & Bay Leisure and our vision is to continually increase sports participation. As a not for profit company we use any profits made from the Café and private events to offer free and low cost sports to the whole community.
“During the past 5 years almost 90,000 people have participated in sport at 360. We have trained 30 beach sports Crew to deliver beach volleyball, soccer, rugby, tennis, rounders, Atomic Touch, Ultimate Frisbee and multi-sports to more than 25,000 participants from 48 different schools, colleges and universities in Swansea and beyond.
“We have trained 8 watersports instructors to deliver kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding to more than 7,000 adults and children aged 5 upwards. Our Nordic Walking and Volleyball Clubs continue to go from strength to strength with both clubs having over 50 active members.
“In 2015 we hosted the RYA Thundercat National Championship Tour, this weekend event saw 30 high speed powerboats battle it out to become the Swansea Champions and for the past two years we have hosted the Swansea Beach Soccer Festival, now with over 600 adult and child participants age five and over.
“In 2015 we also established Swansea Bay parkrun and in 2016 we became the host venue for the Paul Popham Running Club, these two events welcome over 400 runners to 360 on a weekly basis.
“Over the past five years our customers and Crew have raised a significant amount of money for our charity partners. We have raised over £7,000 for Guide Dogs Cymru, £2,000 for Llys Nini RSPCA, £2,000 for the RNLI and £1,500 for Macmillan Cancer Research.
“360 looks forward to continuing to increase sports participation on Swansea Bay in 2019, Visit Wales’s ‘Year of the Sea’ and over coming years.”
After the birthday celebrations, 360 will be getting ready for October’s half-term with a timetable that will include beach and watersports running all week. Other events planned at 360 include :
- Friday 29th September 2017 - 360 will be hosting its 4th annual Macmillan Coffee Morning. All income generated in the Cafe Bar from hot drink & cake sales between 09:00 – 11:30 will be donated to Macmillan.
- Thursday 16th November 2017 - 360 will be serving a 4 course dinner from 12:00-19:00 to mark Celebrate Beaujolais on Swansea Bay day.
