The Materials and Manufacturing Academy (M2A) is a Swansea University initiative which provides industry-led postgraduate research training in the areas of advanced materials and manufacturing. The Materials and Manufacturing Academy (M2A) is offering 9 fully-funded MSc by Research scholarships at Swansea University in the following subject areas:

  1. Buildings as Power Stations – Hybrid Energy Solution
  2. Production of synthetic gypsum from steelmaking slags
  3. Solar PV Microinverter-tracker
  4. Replacement for Fordax – Accident and Incident Reporting Database
  5. The Assessment of Metals in WEEE For Economic Optimisation of Recycling Processes
  6. Characterisation tool of Perovskite photovoltaics based on TCSPC
  7. Corrosion Resistance of Super Duplex Stainless Steels
  8. Alternative Strain Gauge Manufacturing Processes
  9. Multi-functionality in 3D Printed Structures
  10. Automation of ladle hook engagement
  11. Rapid prototyping and tooling of automotive seal mouldings
  12. Alternative manufacturing solutions for lightweight automotive interior and exterior brightware
  13. Advanced Surface photovoltage measurements methods to enhance and characterize the performance of solar cells
  14. Identification of passivity breakdown parameters for Magnox nuclear fuel cladding in pond storage conditions

Eligibility

Candidates should hold an Engineering or Physical Sciences degree with a minimum classification level of 2:1 or equivalent relevant experience. Please see individual project adverts above for specific eligibility criteria.

Our funders require applicants to also meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • You must be a UK or EU citizen (i.e. eligible for ‘home’ tuition fees at the University) and have the right to work in Wales at the end of your studies.
  • You must be resident in West Wales and the Valleys at the point of enrolment and throughout the duration of your studies.
  • You must not be financially able to participate without the award of grant funding.

Funding

Each scholarship covers the full cost of UK/EU tuition fees, plus a tax free stipend of £12,500 p.a.
