Athena SWAN at Swansea University Medical School

Swansea University Medical School became the first department within the University to achieve an Equality Challenge Unit (ECU) Athena SWAN Charter Silver Award. 

The Athena SWAN Charter is a scheme run by the Equality Challenge Unit (ECU), which recognises advancement of gender equality in terms of representation, progression and success for all.

The Charter covers men and women in academic roles, professional and support staff and students in relation to their:

  • representation
  • progression into academia
  • journey through career milestones
  • working environment

The Medical School is actively implementing its Silver Award action plan to ensure that all members of staff and students are equally represented through working groups in:

  • Data
  • Career Progression
  • Communications and Culture
  • Clinical Academics.

The Medical School also runs the Athena SWAN Seminar Series to address issues related to the charter.
