Academic Life

Our useful information section covers a variety of questions you may have about studying at Swansea University but if the answers aren't covered then do not hesitate to contact us!


Places are available in University residences as well as in University managed flats and houses for Visiting and Exchange students .

You will be given instructions on how to apply for University accommodation once your application has been processed. 

If you do not wish to apply for University accommodation on campus, you have the option to apply for private sector accommodation.

Arrival in Swansea

When should I arrive?

Please refer to your acceptance email or letter.

All students are expected to arrive from  Thursday, 31st January 2019 in order to attend our compulsory Orientation Event held on Friday, 1st February 2019.  Students will be emailed details of the Orientation before their arrival.

If you are taking part in the Swansea University Pre-Sessional Programme you should expect to arrive for Monday, 21st January 2019

If booking accommodation through Swansea's Residential Services Team please email them on to confirm when you can enter your accommodation.

Travelling to Swansea


Cardiff International

Once you arrive at Cardiff International Airport take the shuttle bus, Service 905, to Rhoose Cardiff Railway Station. From here you can then catch one of the hourly trains to Cardiff Central Station or Bridgend. From either Cardiff Central or Bridgend Stations take a train to Swansea (1 hour).

Bristol International

Once you arrive at Bristol International take the Bristol International Flyer Express Coach to Bristol Temple Meads station. From Bristol Temple Meads take a train to Swansea (2.5 hours).

London Gatwick and London Heathrow

The National Express coach company runs buses directly from both Heathrow and Gatwick airports to Swansea. This is the cheapest and easiest way to travel. Transfer times are approximately 4 hours (Heathrow) and 5.5 hours (Gatwick).

Meet & Greet Service

Arrive stress free with the Meet and Greet Airport Pick Up Service! Swansea University offers an airport pick up service, for a small cost from Heathrow Airport to all new International and EU Students; this is to make sure that your first journey to Swansea is as smooth as possible.  Ths service is availalbe for September arrivals ONLY (semester 1, term 1 and full year). This service is NOT available for February arrivals (Semester 2). To register please click here


Train and Bus Stations for our Campuses

If you are arriving at Swansea Bus Station or Train Station we suggest you take a taxi to the University. There are taxi ranks outside both the bus station and the train station. If you wish to utilise public transport, Swansea operates a FTR-Metro bus service - No. 4 that departs from the train station and central bus station and it stops outside Fulton House (Singleton Campus). Bus No.8 operated by First Cymru departs from the central bus station to both campuses. Find out more here

Directions to Hendrefoilan Student Village

From Swansea Bus Station, we advise you to take a taxi to the Student Village. You can also catch Bus No.8 which departs from the main bus station and will take you to Hendrefoilan Student Village.

EU Students will be emailed instructions on how you can enrol online two weeks before arrival.  If you are unable to enrol online before arrival you will be able to enrol once you arrive in Swansea.

Non EU students must enrol in person, information will be provided at the Orientation Events.

Students attending the Pre-Sessional Programme will be enrolled in person at an enrolment & registration event held on Monday, 21st January 2019.  Students will be emailed information on location and time of this event before their arrival.

Email Account

Once you are enrolled as a student of Swansea University an email account will be automatically set up for you. 

Medical Provision

EU Students will need to obtain a valid European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) before coming to the UK to access any required medical treatment.

International Students:

  • Will need to seek information from their home university Study Abroad Coordinator on taking out health insurance.
  • Studying for a full academic year will be able to register with the University Campus Health Centre.
  • Studying for 6 months or less are unable to register with the University Campus Health Centre. Students are able to attend any local GP/Doctor surgery and pay for a consultation & any medication received.  These charges can be reclaimed on health insurance taken out by the student.
  • The University Campus Health Centre is able to provide students with details of GP/Doctor surgeries in the area in which students live.
