Why has Swansea University built the Bay Campus?

The Bay Campus provides the University with space for growth with its opening in September 2015 doubled the size of the University over-night. It enables us to deliver exciting new facilities for students and staff including teaching, residential, social, study and research space. It also allows us to deliver our exciting research vision and provide facilities for businesses to work with academics and students.

How many students and support staff are based at the Bay Campus?

There are approximately 5000 Engineering and Management students based at the Bay Campus and 650 support staff.

Who will be able to live at the Bay Campus?

Full allocation policy and prices are available on our accommodation website. Students studying on site will have priority but others can also apply. Postgraduate and returning students will be able to apply for a quota of rooms.

How many rooms are there on the Bay Campus?

There are currently 2002 rooms for students. The accommodation is made up of cluster flats varying in size from four to eleven bedrooms, with 1 & 2 bedroom flats also available.

There are 12 wheelchair accessible rooms, some of which offer interjoining ‘buddy rooms’. In addition, there is a quota of rooms available for visually and/or hearing impaired students.

What facilities are there at the Bay Campus?

There is a full range of support, recreational, social, sporting, and catering facilities on the campus, including:

  • Student support services located in the Tower Information Centre
  • Extensive catering provision including The Great Hall Cafe, Bar and restaurant, 52 Degrees, The Core and coffee shops 
  • The Great Hall is also a multi-purpose auditorium for 700 for events including concerts and exhibitions
  • Extensive retail units including a Tesco minimarket and Santander bank
  • Students’ Union with social space
  • Students’ Union Nursery/Creche
  • Laundrette
  • Offices and meeting rooms
  • Beach access and beautiful public spaces
  • Recreational sports facilities including gym, sports hall and outdoor playing areas

What sports facilities are there at the Bay Campus?

In addition to the World Class sporting facilities offered at Singleton Sports Village the Bay Campus has

  • Full height sports hall: to include basketball, five a side football, badminton, netball, martial arts, exercise classes
  • Fully equipped gym , yoga and spin room with changing rooms

Uni gym membership will cover access to facilities across both campuses.

What teaching and learning facilities are there at the Bay Campus?

There are 25 teaching rooms and lecture theatres in Phase 1 of the Bay Campus. These are split between smaller tutorial and seminar rooms catering for 20 – 50 students and tiered lecture theatres seating 200-350.

In addition to books, journals and access to electronic materials, the library building will house PC workstations for students. There will be teaching laboratories and further PC facilities in the Engineering buildings and the School of Management.

What music facilities are at the Bay Campus, particularly the music practice facilities?

There are 4 music practice rooms at the Bay Campus each containing an upright piano, providing staff and students with exceptional practice and rehearsal space.

The University have also appointed a Music Director who has oversight of the orchestras and also choral societies within the University who is currently devising a musical strategy for the University.

Are there faith facilities at the Bay Campus?

Faith provision can be found on the Bay Campus, it is located in the student residences; there are also churches and mosques in the surrounding area. More information about faith at the University can be found on our website.

What services are based at Singleton that don’t exist at the Bay?

  • The doctor and dentist surgery is based at Singleton Campus along with local doctors' surgery near the Bay Campus. Full list of surgeries near the campus can be found here.
  • The Post Office is based at Singleton Campus and the nearest Post Office to the Bay Campus is in St. Thomas.
